IRIS Optronics Announces Cooperation With Japan Power Company
First Power Pole Digital Display Built With Full-Color E-Paper
[December 8, 114th Year of the Republic of China (Taipei) - December 8, 2025] IRIS Optronics, a leader in full-color cholesteric liquid crystal (ChLCD) display technology, announced its collaboration with a Japanese electric power company to showcase its smart display application for utility poles, made with full-color e-paper, at events held in Mt. Takao and Hachioji City from November 15th to 23rd. The exhibition area spanned the main streets of Hachioji City and the Mt. Takao region, demonstrating how e-paper can replace traditional printed utility pole advertisements and operate in an ultra-wide temperature range of -20°C to 85°C. The spliced, ultra-low power consumption solution displayed not only maintains clear visibility in strong sunlight outdoors but also offers energy savings, weather resistance, and potential for public information applications. This practical application signifies IRIS Optronics's technological breakthrough in the Japanese market and embodies the company's long-term commitment to "innovative energy conservation and green sustainability," continuing to lead display technology towards a paperless and low-carbon future.
Digitalization wave rises on Japanese utility poles, color e-paper becomes key medium
According to statistics from Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, there are approximately 36 million utility poles nationwide. About two-thirds of these are owned by power distribution companies, and they have long been important carriers for urban promotion and advertising. In response to the trend of digital transformation, AUO Display Plus, in this exhibition, is launching a modular e-paper system that can be flexibly spliced according to the pole's structure, supporting synchronized updates across multiple screens and opening up a new digital application model for utility pole advertising. The latest generation of cholesteric liquid crystal display technology offers 16.78 million full-color image performance and maintains stable visibility in environments ranging from -20°C to 85°C. Paired with extremely low power consumption and a design for quick installation, it meets various demands such as energy saving, easy maintenance, and public safety, complying with Japan's strict equipment review standards. This technological breakthrough allows color e-paper to successfully transition from static advertising to intelligent displays for multiple scenarios, meeting the Japanese market's expectations for efficient, weather-resistant, and environmentally friendly digital advertising solutions.
Digitalization drives OOH media upgrade, creating tenfold ad returns and public value
IRIS Optronics, utilizing its unique full-color cholesteric liquid crystal technology, overcomes the limitations of traditional printed posters, such as long replacement cycles and high manual maintenance costs. Through cloud-based digital management, businesses can achieve more than ten times the advertising update frequency in a single day, significantly improving media efficiency and advertising revenue. Furthermore, the low-energy consumption characteristic of e-paper allows it to maintain display even during power outages or low-power states, making it a crucial public information node during disasters. It can instantly transmit traffic, weather, or alert messages, supporting local government disaster prevention efforts. With the maturation of flexible and curved display technologies, the application of color e-paper will extend from utility poles to more public spaces, ushering in a new era for outdoor media that is both flexible and sustainable.
Always-on display becomes a new solution for urban governance and environmental protection
Facing global sustainable transformation and energy efficiency demands, Innolux's color e-paper technology has proven its stability and reliability in extreme environments. Its low power consumption, all-day visibility, and ultra-wide temperature operating capability make it an ideal choice for outdoor signage and public information displays, helping cities strike a balance between carbon reduction and digitization. In the future, Innolux will continue to deepen its cooperation with international partners to promote the global application of sustainable display technology, bringing more environmentally friendly visual communication methods to cities and ushering in a new era of paperless and low-carbon solutions.
