【April 07, 2022, Tainan】IRIS Optronics, a long-term dedicated researcher in full-color Cholesteric Liquid Crystal Display (ChLCD) e-paper technology, officially unveiled its new outdoor display solution, "Infinity Display®," today. By integrating full-color e-paper displays with solar module design, the solution targets outdoor environments and infrastructure where power access is limited, offering a new display architecture that balances visibility, energy efficiency, and deployment flexibility. Albert Liao, Chairman of IRIS Optronics, stated, " Infinity Display® can operate in environments with natural light without the need for external power supplies or complex wiring. This provides a more flexible deployment method for outdoor information displays and lowers the installation barriers for bringing display equipment into various diverse settings."

IRIS Optronics noted that as the demand for information dissemination—such as public events, transportation hubs, and lifestyle services—extends outdoors, display equipment must not only present content clearly but also address practical constraints like difficult power installation, high construction costs, and challenging long-term maintenance. Infinity Display® was developed as a key solution specifically to address these background challenges.

Combining Full-Color E-Paper and Solar Energy: Creating a Truly "Unplugged" Outdoor Display

Infinity Display® utilizes reflective ChLCD full-color e-paper combined with solar cell modules, generating renewable energy from ambient light to power the e-paper's screen updates. Because ChLCD e-paper is inherently bi-stable—meaning it consumes no power to maintain an image and uses only minimal energy during a refresh—the system can operate for extended periods without being plugged in or requiring wiring.

This design not only reduces long-term installation and maintenance costs but also significantly increases the feasibility of deploying display equipment in remote areas, temporary facilities, and public infrastructure sites. Compared to traditional outdoor billboards that rely on the power grid, Infinity Display® offers a display mode better suited to real-world scenarios, ensuring stable information delivery even under power-constrained conditions.

Built for Weather Resistance and Long-Term Display: Expanding the Possibilities of Outdoor Applications

At the core of its design for environmental adaptability and long-term use, Infinity Display® architecture accounts for the common weather fluctuations faced by outdoor equipment. It supports a wide operating temperature range of approximately -20°C to 70°C, allowing it to maintain stable display states despite high heat, extreme cold, or day-to-night temperature swings. This resilience minimizes the impact of temperature changes on display performance and overall lifespan.

IRIS Optronics stated that the launch of Infinity Display® represents a major milestone for full-color ChLCD e-paper in outdoor applications. As material properties, display architecture, and energy designs continue to integrate, the company will develop corresponding display solutions based on different environmental conditions and user needs. This will gradually expand the practical application possibilities of full-color e-paper in outdoor and specialized environments, establishing a more flexible and sustainable technical foundation for low-power, long-duration outdoor information presentation.
