【December 19, 2024, Shenzhen, China】 IRIS Optronics, a leading enterprise in colorcholesteric liquid crystal (ChLCD) e-paper technology, participated in the 16th China (International) Commercial Display System Industry Leaders Summit held in Shenzhen, China this week and was awarded the "ICDA Huaxian Award - Gold Award for Innovative Application" for the 2025 Commercial Display Industry. This award aims to recognize key technologies that promote the upgrading of the display industry. IRIS Optronics received high praise from the judges for its breakthrough achievements in full-color, low-power consumption displays. At the same time, Dr. Albert Liao, Chairman of IIRIS Optronics, was also invited to deliver a keynote speech at the conference, becoming the only Taiwanese industry leader invited to share at this summit, discussing the future of smart displays and digital connectivity with hundreds of attendees from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. This double appearance not only showcased IRIS Optronics's innovative strength but also further boosted its key visibility on the international commercial display stage.

Cholesterol Liquid Crystal E-paper Technology Evolution: Setting a New Standard for Sustainable Displays

In this speech, Chairman Albert Liao, under the title "Cholesteric Liquid Crystal E-paper Revolutionizes Display Application Landscape and Creates a New Blue Ocean," provided a comprehensive analysis of IRIS Optronics's technological evolution in material science, optical design, and low-power architecture. He pointed out that cholesteric liquid crystal e-paper possesses characteristics such as reflective imaging, no backlight, extremely low power consumption, and always-on display without power, capable of presenting up to 16.78 million full-color images. It also offers excellent visibility even in outdoor natural light, making it one of the most sustainable and valuable full-color display technologies currently available.

The speech further highlighted three major changes facing the global display market: the demand for energy-saving transformation in large advertising media, the need for all-weather visibility in public information systems, and the reliability requirements for long-term display in smart retail and smart city applications. These market trends are closely related to corporate ESG indicators, and the energy efficiency advantages of cholesteric liquid crystal e-paper make it an important foundational technology for the future adoption of "green displays" in cities and enterprises.

Chairman Albert Liao also emphasized: "The next stage of competition in display technology is not about being brighter and more energy-intensive, but about being more energy-efficient, more weather-resistant, and able to coexist with the urban environment." IRIS Optronics' technological layout is built upon this value, and it is gradually promoting the application of full-color e-paper beyond single product types, entering diverse fields such as smart transportation, smart healthcare, cultural facilities, outdoor navigation, and commercial displays.

IRIS Optronics won the 2025 Commercial Display Industry "ICDA Golden Display Award - Innovative Application Gold Award" and Chairman Albert Liao was invited to attend the 16th China (International) Commercial Display System Industry Leaders Summit held in Shenzhen.

From Product Platforms to Global Layout: Building a New Generation Smart Display Ecosystem

In terms of product strategy, IRIS Optronics is expanding the application boundaries of e-paper through its diversified technology platform. Among these, "Infinity Display" represents another technological breakthrough by IRIS Optronics in green smart displays. Its core is a full-color, zero-power display with embedded solar power generation functionality. It combines a color cholesteric liquid crystal panel with commercial solar panels, not only displaying by reflecting ambient light but also absorbing non-visible spectrum energy to convert into electricity and store for use. Infinity Display requires no external power supply or professional installation, making it self-sufficient in any environment with natural light. It is suitable for various applications such as scenic area navigation, outdoor information points, and remote site announcement systems.

Ming Display 2.0 utilizes an innovative Cholesteric Liquid Crystal (ChLCD) electronic paper technology, patented by Pearl, integrated with a traditional LCD display architecture. By leveraging the reflective and transmissive properties of ChLCD, it achieves a high degree of integration between static e-paper displays and dynamic image playback. Unlike traditional e-paper that can only display static content, Ming Display 2.0 offers a combination of low power consumption, always-on visibility, and dynamic visual performance, making it broadly applicable for smart healthcare signage, bus shelters, commercial advertising, and public information systems. For instance, medical facilities can simultaneously display waiting room information and health education videos on the same screen, while smart bus stop displays can concurrently show real-time bus information and dynamic advertisements, allowing the energy-saving and eye-friendly characteristics of e-paper to be combined with multimedia information.

IRIS Optronics's global presence spans Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Through this summit, IRIS Optronics deepened exchanges with various material and system integration partners from Europe, the Middle East, Northeast Asia, and Southeast Asia, continuously expanding its influence in the international smart display ecosystem.

Driving a Sustainable Vision with Technological Innovation, Continuing to Lead the Future Direction of Displays

Looking ahead, IRIS Optronics will continue to deepen the technological advancements of its full-color cholesteric liquid crystal e-paper. This includes improving color saturation, expanding wide-temperature applications, and enhancing the integration and weather resistance of large-scale splicing modules. Concurrently, the company will further expand international cooperation and join hands with more partners in the transportation, smart healthcare, cultural innovation, outdoor advertising, and retail technology sectors to jointly develop smart display interfaces that align with sustainable trends.

IRIS Optronics stated that the global market is accelerating towards a "low power consumption, all-weather, and high reliability" display mode, and cholesteric liquid crystal e-paper is the key technology in this turning point. In the future, the company will use Taiwan as its R&D hub, combined with the energy of its international supply chain, to assist cities and enterprises worldwide in promoting green transformation, and continue to lead the display industry towards a more intelligent and sustainable development path through innovation.
